The MOVEMENTE Program

The MOVIMENTE intervention program was conceived in the Research Center on Physical Activity and Health of UFSC, based on the project "Promotion of a Healthy Lifestyle in Adolescents and its Relation to School Performance". The study was planned between 2014 and 2016, in partnership with the Board of Education of Florianópolis. In addition, it also had funding from the National Research Council for Scientific and Technological Development and support from the Catarinense Sports Foundation (FESPORTE).

Based on previous interventions and behavior change theories indicated for intervention studies in physical activity and health, such as Sociocognitive theory and Socioecological theory, the objective of the MOVIMENTE program was to promote the adoption of more active lifestyles. The three pillars of action were: environmental changes (eg availability of materials for physical activity), teacher training for intervention application, and educational actions (pamphlets with health messages).

The pilot study of the MOVIMENTE was conducted in 2016, in one school in Florianópolis and one in São José, in the Santa Catarina State. In 2017, after adjustments for the logistics and strategies, the MOVIMENTE was applied in six municipal schools in Florianópolis. The intervention group was composed of three schools and the control group of the other three, drawn and paired by size (small: 6 to 8 classes, mean: 9 to 11 classes).

The results obtained are organized in reports (link) and publications (link of the repository page). The feedback of the school community, managers, and the scientific community will be the basis for the re-evaluation and evolution of MOVIMENTE, to better promotion of active lifestyles in schoolchildren. O retorno da comunidade escolar, dos gestores, e da comunidade científica servirão de base para a reavaliação e evolução do MOVIMENTE, para melhor promover estilos de vida ativo em escolares.
